The dates for the 2026 FALL South Central Plains Biodiversity Challenge (SCPBC) are: - Friday October 16 - Monday October 19, 2026: Observations made - Tuesday October 20 - Sunday November 1, 2026: Uploading and ID period - Wednesday November 4, 2026: Results announced Quick rundown: The SCPBC is a triannual, four-day bioblitz modelled after the City Nature Challenge that spans the South Central Plains Ecoregion (including Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Arkansas). The 2026 Spring SCPBC was Friday April 24 - Monday April 27, 2026 and the Summer SCPBC ran from July 24 to July 27. Participation in this free bioblitz is easy. Simply follow these steps: - Download the free iNaturalist app to your device. You can download the appropriate app on the link below. - Set up an iNaturalist account (must be 13 years old). You don’t have to use your real name, or provide any identifying information. - Take a photo of a WILD plant or animal anywhere in one of the 105 jurisdictions (county/parish) with the South Central Plains Ecoregion between October 16-19, 2026 and it will be automatically added. If it’s being taken care of by people (captive/domesticated), or it’s been planted (cultivated), it’s not wild. Mark those as Captive/Cultivated. Each photo, or sound file, is a record called an “observation”. The observations can be made of living things, or evidence of living things (i.e., scat, tracks, feathers, etc.). - Finish uploading your observations by Sunday November 1, 2026 to share with the iNaturalist community. All uploaded observations during that time frame will automatically appear on this project's page.
