Lincoln Lions are Citizen Scientists! We contribute to citizen science locally throughout the year, and in April bring our focus to SciStarter and 1 Million Acts of Science! Students use citizen science projects to make real-world learning happen across content areas (reading, writing, math, science, social studies, social/emotional learning) and to include service learning! Students learn how to: compare/contrast, work together to find a consensus, ask questions, research answers, identify useful research tools, make predictions, collect data, show data, determine meaning from data, share findings, make behavior observations, and so much more! Students also learn about possible careers by discussions about scientists we are helping! List of projects we participated this April include: Woodpecker Cavity Cam, Project SIARC, Project Squirrel, Stall Catchers, iNaturalist/MacroBlitz, #LeaveNoTrash, eBird, SquirrelMapper, BirdCast, Lolldaiga Hills, Snapshot WI, Lewa, Chirp Check, Wild Hope viewing party/Florida Virtual Field Trip (Turtle Trackers). We hope to complete Celebrate Urban Birds and Ant Picnic yet this April!
