This is a drop-in, informational event for residents to learn more about becoming a Citizen Scientist. SciStarter ambassadors will be present to answer questions. We hope to see you there! What is citizen science? Citizen science is an accessible opportunity for anyone anywhere to engage in Benicia’s natural environment. Ranging from documenting monarch butterflies and milkweed plants to observing our city’s light pollution levels, citizen science is a way to help people address local concerns and get more in touch with nature. Participants and professional scientists can use the same processes - or protocols - to make observations and collect, share, and analyze data. The data collected from citizen scientists helps professional scientists advance their research and support their own decision-making! A citizen science project can be a one time project that takes a few minutes, or it can develop into a new hobby. With such a wide range of project support, disciplines, scales and timelines, the objective remains the same: Citizen science can lead to discoveries in science that an individual could never achieve alone. SciStarter: Science we can do together.
