Malibu Lagoon is a tidal lagoon and one of the few remaining wetland habitats in Southern California. This important area has been under pressure from development in the surrounding area causing the ecosystem to become impaired. From 2012 through 2013, the Lagoon underwent a substantial restoration to reestablish a healthy, functioning ecosystem.
On April 30th from 10am-1pm, Heal the Bay will be heading to Malibu Lagoon for our Blitz the Bay BioBlitz to record the biodiversity of this newly restored wetland habitat. Help us in the scientific effort to catalogue the diversity of this local gem. We’ll have experts on-hand to help you explore the tidepools, observe birds through binoculars, and learn about the plants and animals of our coastal wetlands.
Can’t make it? We’ll also be hosting a Blitz the Bay event at Ballona Wetlands Ecological Reserve on May 14th.
