Using certified professional detection dogs trained in detecting koala scats, non-invasive sampling and analysis of genetic material was undertaken to gain an understanding of current koala presence/absence across BCC LGA as well as help to understand population structure, genetic diversity and health of Brisbane's koalas.
A total of 13 geographic areas (covering nearly 2,500 ha of land) within BCC LGA were specifically chosen for the Preliminary/1st round of detection dog sampling and consisted of the following locations:
