Learn how pollinators connect to watershed health and why native plants play a critical role in stormwater infiltration and habitat support. This program begins with an overview of common stormwater pollutants, the importance of native plantings, and the ecological role of pollinators. Participants will then take part in a guided outdoor observation to identify bumblebees and practice species identification using real data sheets. Observations will be submitted to the Bumblebee Brigade, a statewide citizen science effort monitoring native bumblebees, including the federally endangered rusty patched bumblebee. The program is led by Kristine Heuser from the Root Pike Watershed Initiative Network. No prior experience is required.
