"Chasing Steve" is a documentary about a group of unwitting Alberta aurora chasers who discover a new phenomenon in the night sky and name it. For years, a group of aurora chasers across Alberta had been photographing a curious ribbon of purple and green light in their night skies. Extending for thousands of kilometres and appearing for just a few minutes to an hour at a time, these Alberta Aurora Chasers captured this celestial phenomenon in their photographs not quite knowing what it was. The Chasing Steve Online Launch Party + Q&A will take place April 16th, 2020 at 4:00 pm PST / 7:00 pm EST, on Zoom and on social media. The Q&A discussion will include Filmmakers Leah Mallen and Jess Fraser, as well as an expert panel including Chris Ratzlaff, the founder of the Alberta Aurora Chasers group of citizen scientists, Dr. Eric Donovan, Professor of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Calgary, and Dr. Elizabeth MacDonald who is the founder of the citizen science project Aurorasaurus, a science communicator, and a NASA scientist. The discussion Q&A will be hosted by SciStarter.org and moderated by Canadian host/performer Alexandra Staseson.
