Happy World Rainforest Day (WRD) and International Day of the Tropics 2026!
WRD is a Rainforest Partnership program that we have participated in the past. As a WRD partner for the 2026 awareness campaign themed “The Forst Within You”, we tree planters and foresters at CIEDM is holding a week-long local event, kicked off on WRD, Monday June 22, to support and partake in the celebrations of the above two global-scale and theme-related events with following actions:
1. To take on an educational campaign for raising awareness of the global campaigns and their messages for protecting rainforests. Specifically, on June 22. we provide SME, or subject matter expert, comment to three separate Facebook articles posted by Worldatlas.com, on the topics of: 1) Did you know the Amazon Rainforest produces about 20% of the world’s oxygen? 2) The Most Beautiful Rainforests In The US, and 3) Biggest Old Growth Forests In The US.
2. To engage rewilding the landscapes and enriching soil biodiversity of the Arcadia Ecohome Microforest, specifically of the subtropical rainforest garden in the Ecohome's front yard and the avocado grove, as shown in the attached picture, in the backyard food forest.
3. To conduct a citizen science based bioblitz walk in the Microforest, and share our event and spotting on information platforms such as SciStarter, Project Noah and iNaturalist. And,
4. To extend the above stated actions to International Day of the Tropics, an official UN-designated observance, on June 29, with focus on tropical rainforests, especially the current issues with and progress made for protecting major rainforest ecosystems such as Amazon and their keystone species.
