As in past years, on March 14 we CIEDM grassroots are taking 1-water and 4-R advocacy and practice actions to support and take part in a couple of awareness campaigns taken place on March 14. The “One Water" approach, also known as Integrated Water Management (IWM), is a forward-thinking sustainability strategy that views all water—whether it’s groundwater, stormwater, wastewater, or drinking water—as a single, interconnected resource.  The 4-R approach to urban water management are to Reduce water waste, Reuse urban and stormwater runoff, Recycle purified wastewater, and Restore contaminated groundwater. Advocating these two approaches, we CIEDM grassroots hold a single event to celebrate the following four regional, national and global awareness campaigns that all related to conservation of watersheds and water resources: - International Day of Action for Rivers (IDAR) 2026, a global campaign for protecting and defending rivers, observed on March 14; - National Groundwater Awareness Week (GWAW) 2026, a national campaign for groundwater protection from pollution, observed on March 7-14; - California Arbor Week (CAW), a state campaign for tree planting for the benefits of trees cleaning the air and water and improving the overall health of our neighborhoods, observed on March 7-14; - Earth Overshoot Day for the US, a global campaign for resource conservation, observed on March 14 in the US. Being located in the arid Southern California, as a member of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification’s Community of Learning and Practice (UNCCD-CLP) and specifically of the CLP groups of Nature-Based Solutions in Water Management and SDG 6 IWRM (Integrated Water Resources Management), I will share the CIEDM event with the CLP and other media sources and will involve 1-water and 4-R actions to: 1. Register CIEDM event with IDAR as a participating local event; 2. Cleanup debris at Arcadia Ecohome Micro-forest that helps water source cleaning, surrounding public streets and the nearby Santa Anita Wash/Trail so as to reduce stormwater & plastic pollution to the Wash and Rio Hondo in our watershed; 3. Take online actions with water-oriented agencies & NPOs to voice supports to protect water ecosystems; 4. Register to attend relevant events and seminars for capacity and network building, such as the UN Celebrations of World Water Day & World Day for Glaciers 2026 on March 21 and the Council for Watershed Health’s Runoff to Resilience Symposium on May 13  5. Engage a social media campaign to advocate and raise public awareness of the four global, national and regional awareness campaigns for conservation of watersheds and environmental resources.
