Happy National Volunteer Week (NVW) 2026! In addition to national celebrations of volunteerism and recognitions of volunteers and their services, the third week of this April is very special: Because it encompasses Earth Day on April 22 and National Arbor Day on April 24, it is also celebrated with Earth Week, National Environmental Education Week (EE Week) and Clean California Community Days, and because 2026 is the UN proclaimed International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development (IVY2026, or International Volunteer Year). All those awareness campaigns for sustainable development, environmental education, protection of Mother Earth, tree planting, and clean communities, require supports and participations by volunteers.
As a registrant of IVY2026 Knowledge Portal on Volunteerism, an UNESCO Green Citizens’ Project Volunteer, and a Partner of California Volunteers for the Governor Office’s Climate Action Counts campaign, I’m taking voluntary actions through this week to take part in IVY, NVW and the other campaigns mentioned above by, as registering a CIEDM local grassroots’ event with EarthDay.org to support the California, national, and global awareness campaigns, holding cleanups of public streets around the Arcadia Ecophome, planting fruits trees in the Ecohome Microforest to increase the forest’s ecoservice capacities of treating stormwaters, absorbing heat and carbon for the local community, participating in citizen science activities such as the 2.50 Million Acts of Science for wildlife spotting and habitat conservation, and sharing what we do online to promote volunteerism for sustainable and resilient development.
