The Toronto Zoo and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans have created an app and online platform to engage citizen scientists with freshwater mussels. There are 55 freshwater mussel species in Canada and scientists are looking for more information about the ranges and abundance of these species. Using the Clam Counter app or "mussselguide.ca" you can take photos of mussels and use the questionnaire to try to identify the different species. If you submit your finding an expert can verify your identification.
