Join BioBlitz Club and Keep Coyote Creek Beautiful for our 2nd South Bay ID Party! At the end of April each year, we host BioBlitz events as part of the City Nature Challenge - a global event where hundreds of cities from around the world will compete on the highest number of observations, observers, and species on iNaturalist. The entire Bay Area is participating as one city, and in order to help us win, we need to identify as many observations as possible.
During this event we will demonstrate how to identify observations on iNaturalist. You can get ready by watching this video. Afterwards participants could identify observations on their own laptops, individually or in small groups.
You don't know how do identify organisms to species level? You can still help! Even sorting "unknown" observations to "plants", "mammals", "insects", or "fungi" is very helpful, as it will make it easier for experts to find observations that need to be identified.
We will bring our field guides, and please bring yours as well (don't forget to label them). Together we can brainstorm and help many people get their observations identified, and get to know our local species as well.
This will be a potluck - so please, in addition to bringing your own field guides, please bring a dish to share, and also your own plate, cup, and utensils, to limit the amount of trash.
What to bring:
- laptop
- any field guides you've got for the area
- a dish to share if you'd like
- a reusable plate, cup, and utensils
