Marine birds and mammals migrate in and out of the Arctic every year. Normally, they return to the Atlantic, but with the Arctic ice melting, new passages are open and some of them may return to the Pacific instead. Oops! This is a very new consequence of climate change and we don't yet know what effects these lost migrants will have on their adopted ocean. It is important that we keep track of them in order to find out.
Fresh Data projects are standing requests by biologists who are eager for up to date information about the distribution of the species that they study.
