Join us in understanding and addressing invasive flora in the Greater Boston Area.
“Record, Remove, Re-plant, and Report - Documenting Invasive Flora in Urban Spaces and Driving Impactful Action”
To celebrate Earth Day and upcoming Somerville Sustainaville activities, [Earthwise Aware](https://www.earthwiseaware.org/) (EwA) is offering two events aimed toward understanding and addressing invasive flora found in urban spaces in the Greater Boston Area. The first is a webinar (this event) to learn more about our [Invasive Flora Monitoring Project](https://www.anecdata.org/projects/view/ewa-invasive-monitoring), how to contribute data to this important project, and how the data is used. If you'd like to attend, please register [here](https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/sxfDGRyLTdan3h6PxVu1uA#/registration). Space is limited, so please confirm your attendance as soon as possible.
A follow-up, in-person field training will be held on May 3, 2026 from 2 to 4 PM for those who want hands-on practice in plant identification, data collection, removal, and replanting (Details and Registration: [here](https://tinyurl.com/260503-EwA-IFP))
We look forward to seeing you at either, or both, of these events! Together, we can protect the health of our urban plants, wildlife, and communities. See below for details.
**Tutorial Overview**
Everyone is welcome to attend this tutorial session to learn about EwA’s Invasive Flora Patrol (IFP) project and how to use the IFP app to further our understanding of invasive species in our region. It is easy and fun! We will review some of the common species observed in our neighborhoods, provide general tips and resources for timely removal, explore data using examples from the city of Somerville, and discuss how this data can potentially impact city policy toward invasive plant species management.
**What you’ll learn:**
- How to access and use this technology.
- Early-growth characteristics of some common plant species that threaten our ecosystem.
- General guidelines for removal of common invasive plant species.
- How this data is used and how it potentially impacts municipal management policies.
Community participation is essential in tracking invasive flora and mitigating their impact. Join EwA in helping protect urban green spaces by contributing critical data on the occurrence, abundance, coverage, and seasonal timing of plant species that threaten our native ecosystem. Your help will supplement EwA's biodiversity and climate studies, informing ecological assessments and management strategies. By leveraging modern technology and our collective effort, we can drive meaningful conservation actions that safeguard our native, urban ecosystems.
We look forward to seeing you at the tutorial and learning from your experiences. Together, we can make a difference for the health and well-being of urban plants and wildlife and our communities.
