Join Sidewalk Detroit, in partnership with Ecology Center and supported by Huron Clinton Metroparks, to celebrate Earth Day by showing the Rouge River a little love! You are invited to help us make a new upcycled sculpture for Eliza Howell Park by finding discarded materials in the Rouge River. Select materials will be used to create a new work of art, led by local artist Halima Cassells, during workshops in May and a final reveal of the sculpture in June. Adult participants will have the option to wade into the river (waders provided) to pull out trash, and volunteers of all ages will help haul the trash to the road and begin cleaning. We will also work on cleaning up the nature trail and a limited number of volunteers will be able to participate in our first ever bioblitz citizen science opportunity - helping to identify plants in the park for a future natural areas management plan. Gear and lunch will be provided. Please bring a reusable water bottle to refill and if you have waders and/or gloves, please feel free to bring those as well. The rain date is May 4, 10am-1pm Questions? Contact Nicky - nicky@sidewalkdetroit.com
