The Federal Citizen Science Community of Practice will host project spotlights from across other federal partners. We’ll learn more about some of the exciting, up and coming projects breaking ground across the country from our 3 speakers: Rachel "Ray" Terracina, Chesapeake Water Watch Project Manager- The Chesapeake Water Watch (CWW) is a participatory science project whose goal is to use volunteer collected data to optimize remote sensing satellites to monitor water quality throughout the Chesapeake Bay. CWW works with partners and community members around the Bay to develop affordable and easy-to-use tools that increase accessibility into the world of water quality data collection. Colleen Flanagan Pritz- Dragonfly Mercury Project - This nationwide program engages citizen scientists to monitor mercury contamination in freshwater ecosystems across national parks and other protected places. By integrating scientific research, public engagement, and resource management, it generates actionable data that inform management decisions, protect public health, and advance conservation and stewardship priorities. Greg Matthews- The National Map Corp - A partnership between USGS, FEMA, and ORNL, which employs The National Map Corps volunteers to increase the accuracy of building occupancy types in the USA Structures dataset. The project's goal is to reach high accuracy, providing a reliable resource for emergency management, national modeling, and cartographic applications.
