Welcome to the Friends of the Lower Blue River Wetlands for Wildlife project. We have worked with wildlife managers at Colorado Parks and Wildlife to better understand existing beaver-friendly habitats in the lower Blue River Valley between Silverthorne and Kremmling. It is a large watershed area with extensive public lands well suited to citizen scientists for exploring, monitoring, and sharing observations of aquatic habitats and the diverse wildlife, including beaver, that populate our stream corridors. Volunteers have helped us by monitoring streams throughout the county in order to validate our part of the statewide Beaver Restoration Assessment Tool (BRAT) mapping prepared by the Colorado Natural Heritage Program and report areas in need of ecological uplift to Colorado Parks and Wildlife. While this project is no longer regularly monitored, we encourage users to continue uploading observations of potential beaver habit for the purpose of long-term data collection.
