Poorly planned roads can be extremely destructive to environmental and social systems, promoting deforestation and land degradation, poaching, roadkill, fires, illegal mining, and disease spread among other things. Millions of kilometers of new roads are set to be built in crucial biodiversity hotspots and carbon sinks all around the globe. However, only half the total amount of roads are included in existing roadmaps, meaning millions of kilometers of roads in tropical countries are not accounted for in environmental regulation and conservation planning. We need your help to document unmapped roads and contribute to vital conservation work! Gain skills in mapping and experience creating real scientific data!
