April is Citizen Science Month! GLOBE Observer is participating by encouraging volunteers to contribute to SciStarter’s Million Acts of Science by collecting clouds, mosquito habitat, land cover, or trees data. In particular, we ask GLOBE volunteers to track the presence of mosquito larvae in standing water to identify the start (or continuation!) of mosquito season.
On 10 April at 8 pm EDT (00:00 UTC), GLOBE Observer Connect will feature Emma Giles from SciStarter and Dr. Rusty Low and Cassie Soeffing from GLOBE. They will lead a discussion about how to connect your GLOBE observations to SciStarter to participate in Citizen Science Month and where to find mosquito larvae as the season gets underway.
To prepare for the discussion, we invite you to read The Mosquito’s Story and You (https://observer.globe.gov/news-events-and-people/news/-/obsnewsdetail/19589576/the-mosquito-s-story-and-you).
