Seagrasses are very vulnerable and are the only flowering plants that can live underwater. They are the main diet of dugongs and green turtles and provide habitat for a plethora of smaller marine animals. Seagrass also filters the water and stabilises sediment, you can understand that is important to keep an eye on the condition of our local seagrass beds!
Gold Coast Seagrass is an engaging citizen science program that takes it volunteers on fun boat trips to beautiful marine environments in the Gold Coast region. Gold Coast Seagrass surveys diversity and density of the marine vegetation, trends, algae cover as well as pipefish, sea turtles and more!
