Update 6/3/2024: Due to rain and storms, we had a number of cancellations of our planned Birdathon walk! We finally got out this morning! We saw 21 species of birds! We also saw a butterfly, a dragonfly, and 2 squirrels. When asked what their favorite sighting was kids' responses included: the American Robin hunting really close to us, the Cedar Waxwings, all the cottonwood fluff floating in the air, the Great Blue Heron, the baby European Starlings, the Northern Cardinal, the Brown-headed Cowbird, the Black-capped Chickadee nest, the Catbird, the mushroom. Thanks to all for following along! See you next year!
The Great Wisconsin Birdathon is a state-wide fundraiser for bird conservation. Our class has been very active in Citizen Science projects throughout the year. Our culminating event will be to complete a neighborhood walk one day in May, 2024. Our challenge is to find as many species of birds as we can! Our list will be entered into eBird. (We will update this page with our number of species seen!) Any money raised is managed by the Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin.
