Volunteers would be trained on how to map using recorded videos and virtual Mapathon webinar providing practical demonstration. Volunteers will be mapping vulnerable flood communities in Nigeria to contribute to OpenStreetMap project in Nigeria thereby providing free and accessible open map data with building footprints of vulnerable flood communities, to enable the International humanitarian organizations, the government and private sector respond proactively to flood communities to save lives and properties.
The project will engage registered volunteers from Unique Mappers Network ( the Local OpenStreetMap and Citizen Science Community in Nigeria) as well as other volunteers in Nigeria as Local Mappers in a competitive Mapathon that would be assessed with Unique Mappers Leaders board for various Prize Awards to contributors.
Internet data subscription shall be provided based on availability of fund to a limited number of registered student volunteers from various campuses in Nigeria to support online mapathon during the Citizen Science week.
Mapping project task shall be delineated on HOT Tasking Manager to provide volunteer engagement during the Unique Mappers Mapthon Citizen Science week
