As part of our ongoing marine debris education and prevention outreach, Lummi Island Heritage Trust is encouraging islanders to take part in the Lummi Island Community Association's Spring Roadside Cleanup happening on Saturday, April 10.Sign up to claim your spot on the island to help gather trash and debris. Grab a smart phone and trash bag, take a walk on public roadsides, and spend an hour or two collecting and documenting trash and debris you encounter along the way.
Research has shown that the best place to make a difference in the amount of marine debris in the sea it to keep it out of the water in the first place. All of Lummi Island is considered a near shore area, so a piece of trash anywhere on the island is potential marine debris.
