After the great sucess of last years Ocean Sampling Day (OSD) it will take place again on the longest day in the northern hemisphere in 2015, during the summer solstice on June 21st. On this day over 150 science teams all around the world will take water samples from the ocean in order to identify the microbes in it. But not only scientists, everyone can join our OSD Citizen Science campaign (MyOSD) by collecting bacteria with the MyOSD Sampling kit or important environmental data like latitude, longitude, temperature, wind speed and others and upload it via the OSD Citizen Smartphone App.The outcome of this global effort will be nothing less than the biggest data set in marine research that has ever been taken on one single day. This vast open-access data set will be incredibly valuable for the marine scientists.
