About NerdNite: https://nerdnite.com/ Presentation 1: Weird, Disappointing, and Achievable Recent World Records by Matt Wasowski While many of us are aware of classic world records like the world’s tallest person or the hottest temperature ever recorded on Earth, however, there are literally thousands of world records set each year that will often live in obscurity, but, honestly, some of them should because they’re not too impressive. This presentation will take a fun look at a few recent world records — some impressive and some less so — and will also share a few that you may be able to break yourself with little effort or time. Bio: Matt Wasowski is the Big Boss of Nerd Nite and produces online events about flying and self-driving cars for SAE International. He's definitely NOT a scientist, but is a citizen. Presentation 2: The Science of the Hangover by Paula Croxson, Ph.D., Neuroscientist Alcohol! Good fun, ice breaker, or worst enemy? For neuroscientist Paula Croxson, it’s definitely her worst enemy. She has hangovers that are unparalleled in their awfulness, and she got to wondering why. Come and find out as she explores the science of the hangover. Will she give you the answer to hangover-free drinking? Only one way to find out… Bio: Paula Croxson is a neuroscientist, science communicator and storyteller. She is Associate Director of Public Programs at Columbia University's Zuckerman Institute, Adjunct Assistant Professor of Neuroscience at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and Senior Producer for The Story Collider. She also plays the flute for the alternative rock band Marlowe Grey and neuroscience-based rock band Pavlov’s Dogz. At the end, stay for the dry t-shirt contest.
