Marking Citizen Science Month, we invite you to an online lecture “The Many Faces of Citizen Science” by Prof. Alan Irwin, the scholar who first used the term “citizen science” in 1995. Citizen science comes in many different forms of activity, from public participation in collecting research data to projects initiated and led by communities themselves. In this lecture, Professor Alan Irwin will explore the diversity of citizen science and address questions that matter today for both academia and the wider public. What connects such different citizen science initiatives? Which citizen science trends are emerging in Europe? And, finally, what can we expect from citizen science in the future? About the speaker: Alan Irwin is Professor at the Centre for Science, Technology, Society Studies at Aarhus University (Denmark) and at the Department of Organization at Copenhagen Business School. He is one of the world’s leading scholars of science–society relations and a co-originator of the concept of citizen science, which he notably popularized in his book Citizen Science in 1995. Today Prof. Alan Irwin actively contributes to shaping EU policy on how to integrate citizen science into the Horizon Europe programme.
