Tuesday, December 9th | Eventide Fargo | 2:00 PM.
William Weightman is a science educator, outreach advocate, and creator of Science and Wonder with William, a program designed to spark curiosity and connection through hands-on learning. With a background in Information Technology and a passion for civic engagement, William brings warmth, clarity, and a deep respect for lifelong learning to every session.
For his second session, we’ll dive into the story of humanity’s fascination with the sky! From ancient stone circles to space telescopes orbiting Earth, humanity has always looked to the sky with wonder. Join us for a hands-on, story-rich exploration of observatories through time, from the celestial alignments of Stonehenge and the star knowledge of Southwest Indigenous cultures, to the breakthroughs of Galileo and Huygens, and the awe-inspiring discoveries of the Hubble, James Webb, and Vera C. Rubin telescopes.
We’ll explore how these tools have shaped our understanding of the universe, and share some of the latest findings, including Webb’s glimpses into early galaxy formation and Vera Rubin’s stunning new images of stellar nurseries and the largest interstellar object ever seen.
This session is designed for learners of all backgrounds. Whether you're a lifelong science enthusiast or simply curious. We’ll also enjoy a hands-on science demonstration inspired by the tools and techniques observatories use to study the cosmos.
This Eventide University session will be held in The Pub at Eventide Fargo. Come as you are. Leave with wonder!
