On Monday, April 8th 2024, a total solar eclipse will be visible from Mexico and Texas to Maine and New Brunswick and the rest of North America will be able to experience a partial solar eclipse! Millions of people will flock to the path of totality! What will animals do? Animal behavior changes during the eclipse…but how? Join us for the Solar Eclipse Safari so, together, we can discover how an eclipse affects animals.
Don’t worry! Participation in Solar Eclipse Safari will enhance, not interfere with, your eclipse experience.
Participate as an individual or as a Solar Eclipse Safari Ambassador to recruit and help others participate. We’ll host a few online training events to help everyone prepare. You'll be asked to identify an outdoor animal you want to observe before, during and immediately after the eclipse. Any animal that lives outside (find one at a zoo, on a ranch or farm, your own pet that spends most of its time outside, wildlife, etc). We will provide links to printable data sheets and that's where you will identify the animal you will study. In various time increments, starting just before the eclipse, during the eclipse, and immediately after the eclipse, you'll be asked to write down behavior data of the animal. Then, you'll simply enter that data through your phone or computer or take pictures of your sheets and email them to our team. Simple!
