The Citizen Science for Rivers movement is now! Join us in 2024 - the Year of the River - as we work with citizens across southern Africa toward developing a review of the state of our river systems, through citizen science techniques. This review, for and by the citizens, will bring together the efforts of the public sector, private sector, tertiary institutions and civil society toward gathering data and generating information on the state of southern African rivers. Through the use of citizen science techniques, anyone can join us in this movement as the methodologies and training materials are easy-to-understand and user-friendly. This movement has stemmed from a UNICEF-supported collaboration between the University of KwaZulu-Natal and GroundTruth under a Water Research Commission project; and we look forward to creating more invaluable connections through this effort.
