Noctilucent clouds (NLCs) form at very high altitudes (in the mesosphere at ~82-88 km/~51-55 miles) and are observed from the ground at dawn-dusk time. This project invites volunteers to share observations of NLCs - images, descriptions, and where and when they were observed (or not observed) and create global map of NLC observations. NLC occurrence frequencies are considered to be an indicator of climate change but are also sensitive to solar activity, dynamics, and exhaust from rocket launches. NLC sightings in the low-mid latitudes are increasing and the data you provide will be used to investigate such connections.
