Join fellow Stall Catchers players for an in-person meetup at ACT Congress 2026 in Orlando, Florida, on Saturday, October 17 at 12 PM ET.
What is Stall Catchers?
Stall Catchers is an online citizen science game from the Human Computation Institute that helps researchers study Alzheimer’s disease. Players watch short videos of blood vessels in mouse brains and decide whether blood is flowing or “stalled.” Scientists at Cornell University have found that these stalls reduce blood flow in the brain and may play a role in Alzheimer’s. Analyzing the videos takes a huge amount of time, so volunteers around the world help speed up the research. You don’t need any science background to play, and you can try it at stallcatchers.com.
What is ACT Congress?
ACT Congress is the annual gathering of the Alliance of Civic Technologists, bringing together civic technologists, community advocates, nonprofit leaders, and volunteers from across the country to build technology for social good. This year it is hosted by Florida Community Innovation (FCI) at The Conduit in Orlando from October 16 to 18. Day 1 (Saturday) features a formal agenda with sessions and workshops, plus breakfast and lunch from Latin Square. Day 2 (Sunday) is an unconference built around open conversation.
At the meetup, you can meet other players, ask questions about the project, and learn how citizen science and civic tech can work together. New players are welcome. Lunch from Latin Square is included with registration.
In person: Local citizen scientists can register for free using the code scholarship.
