The Urban Heat Island Effect / Surface Temperature Intensive Observation Period invites students and volunteers to measure how different surfaces—like pavement, grass, and water—affect local temperatures. Participants contribute valuable data to the GLOBE Program, helping scientists understand urbanization impacts, validate satellite thermal data, and support climate research. This hands-on project combines outdoor observations with real scientific protocols and encourages comparison between urban and rural environments, as well as factors like cloud cover, humidity, and elevation.
Intensive Observation Period Months: October, December and March
