Join us from January 27-31 in a nation-wide snapshot monitoring road salt pollution in our local waterways. Every year in the United States, we apply between 10-20 million tons of road salt on our roadways, sidewalks, and parking lots. Road salt keeps us safe in the winter, but excessive salt can pose a threat to fish and wildlife as well as human health and our infrastructure. To participate in this Salt Watch Snapshot/Blitz, all you need is a cup and a Salt Watch kit (sign up for a free kit at www.saltwatch.org). This snapshot is part of a larger event, Winter Salt Awareness Week, which is a collaboration of governmental and non-governmental organizations across the United States and Canada with a goal to raise awareness around salt pollution and reduction solutions. An informed public can support the adoption of best practices in snow and ice control and advocate for the protection of freshwater resources. Throughout the week, there will be livestreams from experts across the country. Learn more at www.wintersaltweek.org!
