Soldiers2Scientists is pleased to announce the launch of our military-affiliated Youth Field Science Program at Manassas National Battlefield Park in Virginia.
Sponsored by the National Park Foundation, the program will begin in April, 2026 and continue on select Saturdays through June. S2S and NPS scientists will host a range of local experts who will guide us on various field science research adventures throughout the park.
Our EcoRecon Rangers in-training will have an opportunity to explore the battlefield trails, help manage and monitor the 40 yr falcon, owl, woodpecker and bluebird nestbox networks at the park with stethoscope cameras, observe and have a chance to assist the banding process, survey cover board stations for small mammals, amphibians, and reptiles, collect and analyze pollinator specimens and aquatic invertebrates, study vernal pools, the water cycle in the park, and fish for science! We’ll also learn about remote detection technologies and experiment with drone imaging, time-lapse and game cameras, as we track the larger mammals and hidden activity in the spaces less-traveled.
We are looking for interested youth participants AND volunteer citizen scientists field guides to help support our various field projects. Flexible participation options are available.
Parents and families welcome.
