Birdability Week 2026 is a celebration of birders with disabilities and other health concerns and an opportunity to share resources and ideas to help make birding accessible, inclusive, and welcoming to everyone.
This year’s theme, “Bird Where You Are,” invites people to notice and enjoy the birds around them in whatever way works best for their body and mind. You don’t have to travel, hike long distances, know every species, or bird in a particular way to be part of the community.
From October 19–25, 2026, Birdability will host a full schedule of free virtual events featuring Birdability Captains, naturalists, scientists, authors, photographers, and community members with a wide range of lived experiences. Virtual programming includes captions, ASL interpretation, and other accessibility features.
The week includes:
- Finding Balance: Self-Care While Birding — October 19
- Birding While d/Deaf or Hard of Hearing Panel — October 20
- Inclusive Nature Panel — October 21
- Birding at the Intersections — October 22
- Birding with an Energy-Limiting Condition Panel — October 23
- Birds and Brains: A Keynote Conversation About Traumatic Brain Injury and Healing with Birds — October 24
- Birdability Week Wrap-up Social + Photo/Video Contest Winners — October 25
Birdability will also host live virtual birding every morning at 10:00 AM ET on Instagram @birdability, featuring members of the Birdability community from across the country. Activities include backyard birding, virtual field trips, accessible birding locations, ASL-supported birding, and more.
You can participate from wherever you are and in whatever way works for you. Bird Where You Are!
