Beginners and experts alike are welcomed to participate in counting birds for citizen science at Rice Creek Field Station, Tuesdays from 9 to 10 am, November through April. This drop-in program is free and open to all, including children! Please note that children under 17 must be accompanied by an adult. Participants can spend anywhere from 20 minutes to a full hour or more watching the bird feeding stations at Rice Creek. Rice Creek naturalists are available and happy to help beginners learn how to identify common feeder birds. Each of the first 15 individuals/families that participates is able to take home a free suet feeder to get started watching birds from home! Those who come at least 3 times can take home a free large hopper-style feeder. Count data are submitted to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s Project Feederwatch program, an annual citizen science effort in the U.S. and Canada.
