On 21 April 2026, Scivil invites everyone interested in reflecting on the future of citizen science in Flanders. Citizen science is thriving in Flanders, and this strong and diverse landscape offers many opportunities for collective growth. Scivil aims to build sustainable collaborations with the organisations and individuals who make citizen science possible. During this meeting, the first outlines will be developed for how collaboration can take shape in the years ahead.

**Help shape a broadly supported structure for citizen science.**
Citizen science is thriving in Flanders. This strong and diverse landscape offers many opportunities to achieve even more together. That is why Scivil aims to build sustainable, strong collaborations with the organisations and people who make citizen science possible. We want to jointly define and build what citizen science needs, because we cannot do this alone.
That is why, on 21 April 2026, we will bring together everyone who wants to commit to the future of citizen science in Flanders. Together, we will outline the first contours of how we want to collaborate in the coming years—whether that takes the form of a council, a working group, a platform, or something else. The exact format is still open, and we want to determine and shape it together with you.
Together, we will create a shared vision for the future.
- Where do we stand today?
- Where do we want to go?
- And above all: what do we need to do together, starting now, to make that future a reality?
**An invitation to engage – tailored to you**
We warmly invite you to take part in this gathering. During this first workshop, we will explore concrete joint actions that we can—and want to—take forward together. We are not asking for a long-term commitment from you at this stage, but we are asking for the following:
- Curiosity about how we can strengthen citizen science together
- A willingness to reflect on collaboration and shared actions
- Openness to continue building together after this day—if it aligns with your own work, goals, and available energy
Because this moment is exactly that: a starting point.
A first shared step towards a more long-term, broadly supported way of working together—one that we shape collectively, starting from what practice needs today.
