We at the grassroots CIEDM as in past years support and take part in the global celebration of International Noise Awareness Day(INAD) with local actions through this Earth Month and Citizen Science Month 2026 at the Arcadia Ecohome Microforest, California. To pursue the development of Quiet Communities, we have created a Quiet Refugee at the Ecohome with a pocket forest of 500+ trees, shrubs & vines at the Ecohome’s yards to generate ecoservices such as screening & buffering noise from adjoining streets & school, drawing sound birds, improving air quality, quality of life and health for ourselves, neighbors and ALL other beings residing in our community. The Ecohome’s Microforest has been recognized as a Certified Wildlife Habitat, Certified Pollinator Habitat, and CertifiedBee-Firnedly Farm,
In addition to strictly following the City of Arcadia codes on landscaping and gardening noise in residential areas on daily basis as we attend the forest, we've spread the INAD campaign messages in the CIEDM activities through this Month. Specifically, following our tree planting on Friday April 24, the National Arbor Day, to expand the forest's ecoservice capacities, on Wednesday April 29 we are programmed to held a community-science based Quiet Walk in the Refugee for experiencing and appreciating the quietness in the woods as we engage nature observations and recordings and enjoy the natural sounds from winds, insects, songbirds. and the pleasant rhythms played by wind chimes. The outdoor bioblitz walk in a small group serves as our participation in INAD2026, Citizen Science Month, SciStarter’s 2.50 Million Acts of Science, iNaturalsit's City Nature Challenge, and Sound Around Town, a SciStarter Affiliate citizen science project.
