CIEDM as a grassroots holds a local event on 5 January 2026 to support and take part in two awareness campaigns, the 2025 National Bird Day on 5 January and International Zero Waste Month throughout January, at the Arcadia Ecohome with the following actions: 1. Promote Christmas tree recycling by online posting about the opportunity offered by Waste Management (WM) to its service areas for collecting and recycling Christmas trees for a few weeks after the holiday by curbside pickups of small trees contained in green bins or large trees placed by curbside upon calls for pickups. 2. With the strikes of two heavy rain/wind storms around Christmas and New Year holidays, we’ll engage a yard cleanup and maintenance work at the Ecohome, turning all organic waste from yard works into bird friendly habitat features such as brush & leaf piles and forest floors, instead of placing the waste in trash bins, fixing or restoring a couple of impacted bird-friendly features installed in the Ecohome’s Micro-forest, such as birdbaths and the Bird Hotel. 3. With the Micro-forest being a Certified wildlife Habitat and Certified Pollinator Habitat and used as an observation station/lab for CIEDM participatory science activities, we bird lovers will have a bird walk in and around the Micro-forest to not only enjoy birdwatching but also record any spotting of birds. This bird BioBlitz is a part of participation in SciStarter affiliated community/citizen science projects and beyond, such as Project Noah, Celebrate Urban Birds, California birds and Project Phoenix.  4. Engage a social media campaign to raise my networks’ awareness of both campaigns and what we as grassroots are doing at the Ecohome. Our online actions will focus on spreading news and reports about the campaigns and sharing our comments to the news.
