Wisconsin has 50 different species of native freshwater mussels within its rivers. The monitoring of these unique species is crucial to the understanding of the health of our freshwater ecosystems. In this workshop, discover the dynamic history of freshwater mussels in Wisconsin, their unique life cycles, and the status of mussel populations in Wisconsin. Then a hands-on tutorial will teach us how to identify common mussel species found in the Milwaukee River and how to individually participate in a state-wide citizen science project monitoring mussel populations.
This program will take place indoors and outdoors. Please read our current mask policy before participation.
