Join a global citizen science mission! This event is completely free, autonomous, and open to anyone, of any age, anywhere in the world. During this weekend, we invite you to transform your backyard, window, or local park into a scientific laboratory. This initiative is inspired by a pioneering project led by Independent Family Scientists (CFI) in Northeast Brazil, demonstrating how kids and adults together can generate high-quality ecological and geospatial data for global science.Choose your track to explore from your own backyard to space: Track 1 (Ecological Monitoring - For Everyone): Download the iNaturalist app and photograph the wild plants, insects, and animals around your area. Track 2 (Geospatial Mapping - Drone Pilots 18+): Conduct a safe drone flight using our replicable cartographic model. Our standard baseline is an altitude of 40 meters, which can be altered and adapted based on local obstacles, property size, or vegetation. Datasets must be publicly hosted inside our official project on the GeoNadir platform, titled From Backyard to Space: Family Citizen Science. All pilots must strictly comply with their local civil aviation regulations. Track 3 (Atmospheric Validation - For Everyone): Download NASA's GLOBE Observer app to record cloud cover, map land cover, or measure tree heights to help international scientists calibrate space satellites. How to Register: Click "Visit" to join this event page. For iNaturalist (Track 1): Link your iNaturalist username to your SciStarter Dashboard under "Info & Settings". For GLOBE Observer (Track 3): Create your account using the EXACT SAME email as your SciStarter account, activate "Connect GLOBE observations to SciStarter" in the app settings, and join our official team using the Referral Code: GLIDBMRI.
