During this citizen science project, participants will help monitor the presence of goldfish in local ponds, lakes, and other freshwater bodies. Volunteers will be asked to record and report sightings of goldfish, including details such as the location, size, and number of fish observed. These goldfish, often released from home aquariums, are considered an invasive species. Their presence in natural ecosystems poses a serious threat, as they compete with native species for food and habitat, disrupt aquatic vegetation, and can contribute to water quality issues. By taking part in this project, you’ll contribute valuable data that can help scientists and conservationists better understand the spread of invasive goldfish and inform efforts to protect native aquatic life.
