MicroQuest for Everyone (MinQue) invites citizens to explore the hidden microbial world around them. Participants collect small environmental samples—such as stones, wall surfaces, tree bark, soil surfaces, or water—and send them to our research team. Researchers then observe, culture, and decode DNA sequences from these samples to detect and isolate unique microorganisms, some of which may be previously unknown. Through this process, participants contribute directly to scientific discovery and deepen their connection with the unseen microbial world. All findings are shared with the community via our online platform, CoLabField, where participants can see maps, photos, and stories of the microorganisms discovered together. This project also serves as a model project for CoLabField and provides a valuable reference for building a citizen science platform unique to Japan.
