By completing the Citizen Science Champions training, you’ll be prepared to help others discover opportunities to participate in real scientific research. In this training you will: Learn how to start conversations, answer common questions, and help people discover opportunities that fit their interests and availability. Become familiar with SciStarter's resources so you can guide people to projects, events, and activities that are meaningful to them. Develop practical facilitation skills that can help you lead conversations, introduce citizen science to groups you're already part of, and create welcoming experiences for people who may be discovering citizen science for the first time. You will practice or acquire the following skills which are part of an “open skills taxonomy” used by employers and schools: Community Outreach, Event Planning, Science Communication, Leadership, Curiosity, and Resource Management. Along with all Champion benefits, Ambassadors are featured in a public directory, receive a digital badge with personalized metadata and free event materials, and, after completing the application, background screening, and other requirements, commit to hosting or facilitating at least two events each year. Ambassador applications are open periodically throughout the year. Everyone who completes the Citizen Science Champion training will be notified when applications reopen.
